Heritage grounds don’t forgive carelessness. A veteran tree mishandled is gone for three centuries, a churchyard is a working burial ground before it’s a green space, and a historic venue’s grounds are part of why people travel to it. Silver Tree Services maintains grounds and trees for the Church of England and for the Bugatti Owners Club at Prescott Hill Climb, and brings the same care to private estates and period properties across Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds.

Who we work with

Trees with history

Much of this sector’s tree stock is protected, significant, or both. We work routinely with Tree Preservation Orders, where unauthorised works carry fines of up to £20,000 per tree, and in conservation areas, where the council requires six weeks’ written notice before works. Veteran and ancient trees are managed for retention, with reduction, deadwood management, and habitat-aware techniques that extend their safe life rather than defaulting to removal, and our survey team provides the inspection records that protect owners of significant trees.

Churchyards and consecrated ground

Churchyard work has its own rules: memorials to work around and never against, faculty and diocesan permissions where works require them, burial areas treated with unfailing respect, and conservation interest, from lichens on monuments to slow-worms in the long grass, that often makes churchyards the oldest unimproved grassland in a parish. Our teams maintain churchyards for the Church of England and understand that the standard is set by the most attentive parishioner, not the easiest mowing line.

Discretion for private clients

Private estate clients get gates closed behind us, staff who are courteous and identifiable, scheduling around family life and shoots, and absolute discretion about whose grounds we maintain. References from comparable work are available in private conversation where appropriate.

Areas we cover

Portfolios across Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud, Tewkesbury, Cirencester, and the Cotswolds, with multi-county portfolios considered where the sites justify the coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions About Heritage & Private Grounds

Do you have experience maintaining churchyards?
Yes. Silver Tree Services maintains churchyards for the Church of England, working around memorials with care, respecting burial areas, and managing the conservation interest that churchyards often hold as old unimproved grassland. Where works need faculty or diocesan permission, we advise and work within it. Mowing regimes are agreed with the parish, balancing tidiness around visited graves with wilder management where the church wants it.
Yes, routinely. Tree Preservation Orders make unauthorised works an offence with fines of up to £20,000 per tree, and conservation areas require six weeks’ written notice to the council before tree works. Silver Tree Services checks protections before quoting, prepares and submits the applications and notices, and carries out approved works to BS3998:2010 with NPTC-certificated teams. Across Gloucestershire’s conservation villages and historic towns, this is daily work for us.
For retention, not removal. Veteran trees are managed with techniques that extend their safe life: staged reduction to lower wind loading, deadwood management that keeps habitat while removing risk over targets, and ground protection around root zones. Silver Tree Services surveys significant trees, prioritises by risk, and gives owners the inspection records that demonstrate duty of care, so estates across Gloucestershire keep their oldest trees standing safely for decades longer.
Yes. Silver Tree Services maintains the grounds of Prescott Hill Climb for the Bugatti Owners Club, a working historic motorsport venue, so we understand event-calendar scheduling: grounds brought to standard ahead of event days, works programmed in quiet periods, and crews working around visitors, exhibitors, and operations. RAMS cover event-facing work, and presentation standards reflect the fact that the grounds are part of what visitors come for.
Completely. Gates are closed behind us, teams are identifiable and courteous to family and household staff, scheduling works around how the estate is actually lived in, and Silver Tree Services does not publicise private clients or their properties. Where a private client wants reassurance, references from comparable work can be arranged privately. Discretion is treated as part of the specification, not a favour.
They need informed maintenance. Mature gardens hold planting that took a century to achieve, and the wrong pruning, the wrong mowing regime, or careless machinery around root zones does damage a budget can’t undo. Silver Tree Services maintains period gardens and parkland across Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds with horticulturally literate teams, supported by its own nursery for sympathetic replanting, so the garden’s character compounds rather than erodes.
