Biomass, Firewood & Woodchip

Wood fuel produced in Gloucestershire, from Gloucestershire trees. Biomass woodchip, seasoned hardwood logs, landscaping chip for gardens, all processed at our Shurdington yard from timber our own crews bring in every working day.

What We Supply

From our tree work to your fire.

Most fuel merchants buy timber in. Ours arrives on our own lorries: every working day, Silver Tree Services’ tree surgery and clearance crews bring arisings back to the Shurdington yard near Cheltenham, where it’s graded, processed, dried, and sent out again as seasoned logs, mulch and other goods. That closed loop is the engine behind our ISO 14001 certification and the reason the fuel is genuinely local, genuinely traceable, and priced without a merchant’s margin stacked in the middle. Here’s each product properly, what it is, who it’s for, and what it costs.

How it works

Step One

Stove, open fire, or borders to mulch, plus rough quantity and your postcode.
Step Two

Price & slot

Current prices and the next delivery run for your area, confirmed there and then.
Step Three

Delivery

Loads delivered across Gloucestershire; tell us about access and where you want it dropped.
Step Four

Repeat or schedule

One-off loads, winter top-ups, or scheduled supply for steady burners and trade.

Seasoned Hardwood Logs

Air-dried hardwood for customers with proper log stores and a season’s patience: a lower price per load, burning beautifully once it’s genuinely dry, with the honest caveat that “seasoned” is the most abused word in the firewood trade. Ours is seasoned properly and we’ll tell you its state plainly; bring a moisture meter to the yard if you like. Buying seasoned ahead and finishing the drying yourself is the smart-money pattern for steady burners.

Seasoned suits you if:

Woodchip

Screened, moisture-managed chip for commercial and agricultural biomass systems: schools, estates, farms, holiday parks, and district systems across Gloucestershire.

Woodchip supply suits you if:

Landscaping & Woodchip

The other life of arboricultural chip: mulch for borders that suppresses weeds and holds moisture, surfacing for paths and informal play areas, and bulk chip for landscaping projects. Fresh arb chip and graded products are both available, by the bag or by the load, and our landscaping teams can spread it as part of a planting or maintenance job if you’d rather not barrow it yourself.

Landscaping chip suits you if:

Timber Reception at the Yard

We take wood in as well as out. Clean softwood is received at the Shurdington yard, hardwood is assessed on arrival, and clean chip can often be tipped free of charge, a genuinely useful alternative to transfer-station rates for local tree surgeons, landscapers, farmers, and estates with arisings to move. Call ahead on 01242 472560 and we’ll confirm what we can take that week and when the yard’s open for tipping.

Yard reception suits you if:

The Closed Loop (Why Ours Is Different)

Trees come down across Gloucestershire; the timber comes here; the yard turns it into heat and gardens; the lorries go back out for more. No imported pallets of mystery-origin logs, no haulage from the other end of the country baked into the price, and a waste stream that’s actually a supply chain, audited annually under ISO 14001 and detailed on our sustainability page. When you buy fuel from us, you’re closing the loop on tree work that probably happened within ten miles of your fire.

Frequently Asked Questions About Biomass & Firewood

Frequently asked.
What is biomass fuel?
Biomass fuel is organic material, in practice usually wood, burned to produce heat: woodchip for commercial biomass boilers, logs for stoves and fires, and pellets. It’s classed as a low-carbon heat source because the carbon released in burning was absorbed as the tree grew. Silver Tree Services produces biomass woodchip and firewood at its Shurdington yard near Cheltenham, largely from timber generated by its own tree surgery operations across Gloucestershire.
Bulk bags of seasoned hardwood start from around £75 and kiln-dried from around £95, with loose loads and multi-bag orders priced by volume and landscaping chip from around £40 a bag. Prices move with the season, buying in spring and summer beats panic-buying in a cold snap, so call 01242 472560 for current rates and the next delivery slot for your postcode. Trade and volume buyers should ask about scheduled supply rates.
Kiln-dried firewood has been dried in a controlled kiln to consistently low moisture, so it lights easily, burns hot and clean, and is ready to use on delivery. Seasoned firewood is air-dried naturally over a year or more, costs less per load, and burns well with proper storage but with more moisture variation. Kiln-dried gives more heat per log and less flue tar; seasoned rewards patience and a good log store. Silver Tree Services supply seasoned firewood across Gloucestershire and will advise honestly for your stove and storage.
Yes, delivery runs cover Gloucestershire weekly through the heating season, with Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud, Tewkesbury, Cirencester, and the Cotswold villages all on regular routes. Call 01242 472560 with your postcode and Silver Tree Services will confirm the next slot for your area, usually within days, faster outside the winter rush. Tell us about access, lanes, gates, where to drop the bag, when you order and the driver arrives knowing the plan.

Yes. Clean softwood is received at the Shurdington yard near Cheltenham, hardwood is assessed on arrival, and clean woodchip can often be tipped free of charge, a practical alternative to transfer-station rates for tree surgeons, landscapers, farmers, and estates. Call 01242 472560 before loading up and Silver Tree Services will confirm what’s being accepted that week and the yard’s tipping arrangements.

Mostly from our own work, which is rare in this trade. Silver Tree Services runs tree surgery, clearance, and grounds teams across Gloucestershire, and their timber and arisings return to the Shurdington yard for processing into firewood, biomass chip, and mulch: a genuinely closed loop, audited under ISO 14001, where local trees become local fuel instead of haulage from across the country or material sent to waste.
