Landscaping
Landscaping covers everything that turns a tired or unloved outdoor space into a garden you actually use, from the hard structure of patios, paths, and fencing to the soft side of lawns, beds, and planting. At Silver Tree Services, our landscaping team handles both across Gloucestershire and surrounding areas, which means one design, one quote, and one crew seeing the whole job through rather than a parade of separate trades. And because we’re also tree surgeons, the awkward jobs that stall most garden projects, like an overgrown tree or an old stump in the middle of the lawn, get dealt with by the same company in the same visit.
Hard landscaping
The structural side of the garden, built to last:
- Patios and pathways in natural stone, porcelain, block paving, or gravel
- Driveways in tarmac, block paving, resin, or gravel
- Decking in timber or low-maintenance composite
- Fencing, from closeboard and panel to post and rail and picket
- Retaining walls and raised beds in brick, block, timber sleepers, or gabion
- Pergolas and garden structures to frame seating and dining areas
- Ground levelling and site preparation, including drainage where the ground needs it
Soft landscaping
The living side, chosen for your soil, light, and how much time you want to spend on it:
- Turfing and seeding for new lawns and lawn renovation
- Planting of trees, shrubs, hedging, herbaceous borders, and wildflower areas
- Garden design and planting plans, from a single border to the whole plot
- Hedge planting to establish privacy and structure, with ongoing trimming available once it's grown in
Much of our hedging and tree stock comes from our own nursery in Shurdington, so plants arrive fresh rather than spending a week on a lorry.
Full garden transformations
Some projects are one element. Others are the whole garden: clearance, levelling, a new patio, fresh turf, planting, fencing, and lighting conduit, sequenced properly so trades don’t trip over each other. Because tree work, stump grinding, landscaping, and clearance all sit under one roof at Silver Tree Services, we can take a garden from overgrown to finished without you coordinating anything. We’ll agree the design and a staged plan up front, so you know what happens when and what each stage costs.
How we work
It starts with a free site visit. We’ll walk the garden with you, talk through what you want from the space, flag anything the ground or access will dictate, and follow up with a written, itemised quote. On the build, we protect what’s staying, keep the site tidy day to day, and as an ISO 14001 certified company we recycle green waste and spoil responsibly rather than skipping the lot. You get a realistic timeline before we start and a walk-round with the team lead when we finish.
Areas we cover
We landscape gardens across the whole of Gloucestershire, including Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud, Tewkesbury, Cirencester, and the Cotswold towns, as well as cities such as Bristol, Bath, and Swindon. If you’re not sure whether we reach you, just ask.
Guide prices
Landscaping is priced per project, because no two gardens or specifications are the same. As a rough guide, patios typically run from around £80 per square metre depending on the material, new turfed lawns from around £15 per square metre, and decking from around £150 per square metre. Every project gets a free site visit and a written, itemised quote with no obligation.
Good Questions
How much does landscaping cost in the UK?
Landscaping costs vary enormously with the size of the garden and the specification, but as a guide, a patio typically costs £80 to £200 per square metre depending on the material, a new turfed lawn £15 to £30 per square metre, decking £150 to £300 per square metre, and driveways £60 to £200 per square metre. A full garden transformation is priced as a staged project. Silver Tree Services provides free, itemised written quotes after a site visit anywhere in Gloucestershire and surrounding areas, so you can see exactly where the budget goes.
What's the difference between hard and soft landscaping?
Hard landscaping is the built, structural side of a garden: patios, paths, driveways, decking, fencing, walls, and raised beds. Soft landscaping is the living side: lawns, trees, shrubs, hedges, and planted borders. Most garden projects need both, and the order matters, since the hard structure goes in first and the planting follows. Silver Tree Services delivers both with one team across Gloucestershire, so the design, the build, and the planting are coordinated rather than handled by separate trades.
Do you design gardens as well as build them?
Yes. We can work from your existing plans or a designer’s drawings, or develop the design with you, from a planting plan for a single border to a layout for the whole garden. Because our designers, landscapers, and arborists are one company, the design accounts for practical realities like access, drainage, soil, and any tree work needed, rather than discovering them mid-build. Silver Tree Services covers design and build across Gloucestershire and surrounding areas, with a free initial site visit.
Can you clear an overgrown garden before landscaping it?
Yes, and it’s one of the most common ways projects start. Silver Tree Services handles full garden clearance, including overgrown shrubs, brambles, unwanted trees, hedge removal, and stump grinding, with the green waste recycled rather than landfilled as part of our ISO 14001 certified operation. Having tree surgeons and landscapers in one company means the clearance, the groundwork, and the rebuild run as a single sequenced project instead of three contractors and three quotes.
How long does a landscaping project take?
A single element like a patio or a fence line is typically a few days to a week, while a full garden transformation usually runs two to six weeks depending on size, specification, and weather. We’ll give you a realistic timeline with your quote and a staged plan for bigger projects, so you know what happens when. Silver Tree Services schedules work honestly rather than optimistically, and keeps you updated if conditions move things.
Will the work be disruptive while it's happening?
There’s no avoiding some noise and mess during a garden build, but we keep it contained. Silver Tree Services protects the areas of your garden that are staying, keeps materials and spoil tidy, leaves safe access to your home throughout, and clears the site at the end of every working day. We’ll talk through access for machinery and deliveries at the site visit, including narrow or rear-only access, which we deal with regularly across Gloucestershire’s terraced and cottage gardens.
